Pitched Roofing Contractors - London & South East

High-Quality Tiling, Slating & Leadwork for Commercial and Public Sector Projects

DL Jones Roofing Services has been delivering pitched roofing installations and replacement programmes across London and the South East since 1987. Based in South Croydon, our experienced pitched roofing teams work daily across London, Surrey, Kent, Sussex, and Essex – delivering slate and tile roof replacements for housing associations, local authorities, schools, block management companies, and private residential and commercial clients.

Pitched roofing on social housing and public sector buildings is a major capital investment – one that requires careful material specification, thorough structural assessment, accurate programming, and sensitive resident management. DL Jones understands the procurement frameworks, compliance requirements, and site management disciplines that public sector and housing clients depend on.

Whether you are planning a single roof replacement or a multi-building estate programme, our team provides the survey, specification, quotation, and delivery that gives you complete confidence from start to finish. Core Services

Slating & Tiling

We install and replace all natural and man-made slates, clay tiles, concrete tiles, and interlocking systems – on new build projects, planned replacement programmes, and emergency repairs. All slating and tiling work is carried out in compliance with BS 5534 (the British Standard for slating and tiling) and uses correctly specified underlay, batten, and fixings for the material and exposure zone. As approved Bauder contractors, we also install flat-to-pitched hybrid systems where roofs incorporate both elements.

We work regularly on housing estate programmes for housing associations and local authorities across London and the South East, delivering phased replacement programmes that minimise disruption to residents while completing works efficiently within planned budgets and programmes.

Ideal for: Schools, housing blocks, local authority buildings, heritage refurbishments.

Leadwork & Detailing

Our experienced leadworkers handle flashings, valleys, abutments, and bespoke heritage elements using code-compliant materials and techniques. All work follows LSTA best practices.

Ideal for: Conservation areas, listed buildings, technical detailing on public buildings.

Chimney Works

We repoint, rebuild, or safely remove redundant chimney stacks – ensuring the surrounding roof structure is protected, compliant with fire regulations, and correctly weatherproofed. Chimney repointing and repair is one of the most frequent sources of water ingress on older housing stock, particularly pre-1970s local authority and housing association properties. We assess each stack individually and specify only the works that are genuinely required – repointing where the structure is sound, partial or full rebuild where it is not.

Ideal for: Period refurbishments, public housing projects, or when repurposing older buildings.

Skylights & Rooflights

We install rooflights and skylights for natural light and ventilation, including full Velux window fitting into existing or new roof structures. Leak-free, energy-efficient, and compliant with Part L.

Ideal for: School refurbishments, loft conversions, and commercial retrofits.

Velux Window Installations

We are experienced Velux window installers, delivering watertight, thermally compliant Velux installations in pitched roofs across all building types. Our Velux installations include full integration with the surrounding tile or slate covering, correct lead soaker and flashing detailing to Velux’s specification, and compliance with current Part L energy performance requirements.

Velux window installation is particularly in demand on school refurbishments, loft conversions in social housing, and period residential properties where improving natural light and ventilation without altering the roofline is a planning requirement

The Roof Structure: What Lies Beneath Matters

Pitched roof replacement is not simply a matter of removing old tiles and installing new ones. The condition of the underlying structure – the rafters, ridge board, purlins, wall plates, and any timber boarding – must be thoroughly assessed before specification and pricing. In older housing stock built before the 1970s, a significant proportion of the roof timber may be in poor condition due to age, beetle infestation, dry rot, or the ingress of water through the failing covering.

At DL Jones, every pitched roofing project begins with a thorough structural assessment as part of our roof surveys and reports process. We identify and specify all required timber repairs and replacements as part of the project scope from the outset – not as subsequent variations that inflate cost and disrupt programme. This transparent approach protects our clients from unexpected costs and delays, and is particularly valued by housing associations and local authorities who need accurate budgets and programmes before committing to major works.
